Why First Thirty?
Simplicity and clarity are key to getting anywhere fast in business.
Our business philosophy is to find a few key goals or checkpoints that help to define purpose, guide decision making, and recognise progress as it happens.
Just as the first thirty seconds of any engagement are key to winning attention and traction, there are other milestones, like the first thirty:
- people – a ‘grown up’ organisation
- customers – when development goes commercial
- million – or another number that is a threshold of scale
- months – surviving this far and becoming sustainable?
There are also some tools that help in personal and business development, like the first thirty:
- minutes – to plan the day ahead
- words – to grab a reader’s attention
A Framework for Growth

Phil Curtis
Director & Principal Consultant
I’m a consultant and a coach, in both business and sport.
I have mentored, coached, advised or led businesses and teams in global companies and SMEs, on major projects, business development, fundraising, M&A and growth initiatives.
As a qualified sports coach (canoe and paddlesports) I deliver instruction or lead groups and expeditions. The crossover between sport coaching and business has enriched my approach and contributed to my achievements in both.
